Bush Claims “We’re Making Progress”, To Which Rick Santorum Replies, “Quick, Everyone Under Their Desks!”

(I have to give a shout out to my friend the Rational Psychic for inspiring this post by writing about it first. If you never checked out his blog before I insist that you do so as he is an excellent writer and an all around Dude).

I’m sure most of you heard the recent comments from former Pennsylvanian Senator Rick Santorum, and are just as flabbergasted as yours truly. (I don’t get flabbergasted too often as I loathe the word). However, if you were fortunate enough to miss the Shitheel’s comments here’s what he said,

“Between now and November, a lot of things are going to happen, and I believe that by this time next year, the American publics going to have a very different view of this war, and it will be because, I think, of some unfortunate events, that like we’re seeing unfold in the UK. But I think the American publics going to have a very different view.”

In other words, RS thinks we’re going to be attacked again, and that another attack will change America’s view of Bush, The War in Iraq, and I can only assume RS hopes Pennsylvanians fall back in love with his self-righteous ass as well.

Santorum’s remarks, coupled with similar comments made by Dennis Milligan the newly elected Chairman of Arkansas’ Republican Party, and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, paint an ominous picture.

Milligan said,

“At the end of the day, I believe fully the president is doing the right thing, and I think all we need is some attacks on American soil like we had on [Sept. 11, 2001 ], and the naysayers will come around very quickly to appreciate not only the commitment for President Bush, but the sacrifice that has been made by men and women to protect this country,”

And then Chertoff stated on Wednesday,

“I believe we are entering a period this summer of increased risk… Summertime seems to be appealing to them,” he said of al-Qaeda. “We do worry that they are rebuilding their activities.”

There is an assessment “not of a specific threat, but of increased vulnerability,” he added.

For almost six years Reps have incessantly reminded Americans, “No attacks on American soil since 9/11 because of us.”

How many times have you heard some variation of this question?

“You can criticize Bush all you want, but has________ (Insert state or city in which you reside) been attacked by terrorists since 9/11?”

“Well no, but ________ has never…” (Rudely cut off).

“At’s cuz’ we’s pertectin’ ya’ll.”

Now we’re being told we are “vulnerable”, and that Americans better get ready because, “It’s coming!”

And it doesn’t end there.

In a report by Counter-Terrorism experts, Al-Qaida is said to be, “considerably operationally stronger than a year ago” and has “regrouped to an extent not seen since 2001”.

Yet, Bush says, “That’s just not the case because of the actions we’ve taken, al-Qaida is weaker today than before.” (Although Bin Laden released another video this week. He’s still ALIVE!)

But…

Bush mentioned Al-Qaida over and over in his address this past week blaming the continued violence in Iraq on “terrorists”, despite his insistence that Al-Qaida is “weaker.”

Let’s look at this for a minute:

1) Rick Santorum and Dennis Milligan say another attack within the United States will improve Republican standings in the Polls.

2) Michael Chertoff says his “gut” is telling him something really, really bad is about to happen.

3) Intelligence experts are saying Al-Qaida is every bit as dangerous and powerful as they were six years ago.

and then…

4) Bush says we need to be patient when it comes to Iraq because we are making “real” progress despite a report that the Iraqi Government has failed to meet any significant targets set for them by the Bush Administration.

He then goes on to blame increasing violence in Iraq on Al-Qaida, while simultaneously claiming Al-Qaida is “weaker” because of our efforts in Iraq.

Huh?

Are we safer or not?

Is the war against Al-Qaida progressing or are we in the same place we were six years ago?

Can we trust our Intelligence Community, and if not why isn’t Bush doing something about it?

Are Rick Santorum and Dennis Milligan plotting a Terrorist Attack in the United States to improve the GOP’s standings in the polls?

Is Michael Chertoff, ironically, the only one in this Administration not interested in Politics?

Is Bush one of those lunatic Christians who believes he was “Called” to hasten the “Second Coming?” (He does rule through “God’s Will” after all).

Is Bush on the sauce again?

We cannot allow ourselves to be mollified by the “We’re Making Progress” line any longer.

How many times can Bush regurgitate that bullshit before we finally stop believing him?

If we were “Making Progress” Santorum and Milligan would have no need to threaten us with the possibility of “Unfortunate Events” or “Attacks on American Soil.”

If we were “Making Progress” Chertoff’s gut would be telling him the only thing we need worry about this Summer is “too much sun exposure”, not “Increased Vulnerability” to terrorist attacks.

If we were “Making Progress”, Bush would not be giving the same speech for the 1000th time or trying to explain why in the name of God Al-Qaida is every bit as powerful as they were six years ago.

Republicans have nothing to offer America other than Perpetual War and Fear Mongering.

Is that the kind of Country you want to live in or the kind of Country you want your children growing up in?

If Bush and Republicans insist that we “Stay the Course”, then it is time for us to insist that they “Stop the Fucking Car Because We’re Getting Out!”

It’s either that or this…

  1. Spot fuckin’ ON, fairlane!

Can we trust our Intelligence Community, and if not why isn’t Bush doing something about it?

No, we cannot trust the Intelligence Community – because Bush is doing something about it. Every fucking thing he can to get the cherry picked information he wants/needs to spread his apocalyptic fear.

  2. Fairlane – nice work!

I think this is the start of a friendship!
