Another Victory for Monogamy, Honesty, Marriage, and the American Legal System

In the heat of the moment, it’s perfectly reasonable to unload four bullets into another human being–but not to lie to one. That’s how it works in Texas, according to this article from CNN:

“… Darrell Roberson came home from a late-night card game to find his scantily clad wife with another man in a pickup in the driveway. Tracy Roberson was with her lover but cried rape, and her husband fired four shots into the truck as Devin LaSalle drove off, killing him.”

The wife was convicted Friday of involuntary manslaughter, and faces up to 20 years in prison.

All charges against the jealous husband who pulled the trigger were dropped!

On what legal grounds is this possible?

Temporary insanity? Heat of the moment?

Seriously, where are we? In a frat house?

  1. No witnesses. HIS word. HER word. A dead guy. The only evidence a text message on a cell phone in which she invited him over and someone’s assertion that she was “scantily clad.” Sounds open and shut to me. NOT.

  2. At least frat houses have the pan-hellenic council to adjudicate for them.

  3. Sick. I bet there’s one of those “crime of passion” exceptions out there. And of course the cheating wife was nailed. No doubt the Man thought he would use her as an example of what happens to woman who misbehave.

  4. Oh, are people allowed to go around shooting alleged rapists? I thought that’s what courts of law were for. I guess they’re for punishing a woman for her husband’s violence.

  5. This doesn’t surprise me. Look at all the women who go through years of physical and mental abuse from their husbands. When they are beaten and the police are called in, the police do nothing. Even if they get a court order of protection, they aren’t protected, the guy could keep showing up. Eventually she may crack and kill the guy in self defense, and she ends up spending life in prison, only to suffer more abuse at the hands of the prison system.

This is what happens when our country is run by “the good ol’ boys club”.

  6. being scantily clad.

clearly that’s an even worse crime than murder OR lying. or rape.

  7. Yup….scantily clad….in a pick-up truck is gravely offensive!!!
You can only be legally ‘scantily clad’ in a BMW. You need to be totally nude in a pick-up truck.

  8. Yeah, wrong outfit for the wrong kind of vehicle. It’s a damn crime anywhere. But especially in Texas. She’s lucky they aren’t putting her to death, as that’s mighty popular in Texas. Remember who the last Gov of Texas was? They like that death penalty plenty, cause it’s”keeping the niggers down.” Don’t blame me for the heinous language, it’s a Randy Newman song.

  9. Have written a post on this at my own site. In my opinion, the behaviour of both the wife and the husband was equally culpable, and both should have been tried.

  10. Carla Faye Tucker, redux.

  11. I don’t know. my girl knows me and she knows she can get someone seriously hurt if she lied and said they did something to her. Lies lead to all manner of tragedy. look at the long island case where the girl said the black guy threatened to rape her and they converged on his house with a rabid mob. look what happened. That is nothing to play with.
A little history for ya…crying rape was a common way to get someone killed.
oklahoma city in the twenties was turned upside down by a mob avenging the alleged assault of a woman in a elevator. did it happen?
    hell hath no fury…

  12. If my wife was screaming rape, I’d probably try to kill the guy if I walked up on the situation.

Of course, I’m smart enought to survey the situation before I just start shooting. “Why are you scantily clad in this guy’s truck, honey?” Might have been an appropriate question.
